Non-Human Primate Research Center
Time: Jan 20, 2022

Tsinghua University Nonhuman Primate Research Center (Tsinghua University; THUNPRC) is located on the campus of Tsinghua University, covering an area of more than 1,500 square meters. The construction started in 2018 and was completed in 2021. The center is fully operational now, and the core nonhuman primate model is the common marmoset. Marmosets have rich vocalizations and complex social behaviors, which are suitable for research on brain function and brain development. At the same time, using the characteristics of early sexual maturity and strong reproductive capacity of marmosets, transgenic marmosets with key genes such as learning and memory, social communication, and complex brain structure can be constructed, providing ideal models for studying complex human intelligent activities and overcoming human brain diseases.

THUNPRC is a comprehensive research service facility that integrates marmoset breeding with cognitive behavior, electrophysiology, brain imaging research, and transgenic model development study. The center has a marmoset breeding area, an experimental area, and an auxiliary housing area, which can raise about 500 marmosets. As one of the core facilities of Tsinghua University, NPRC is open to the whole university, providing researchers of brain science and life science with a cutting-edge research facility, and providing important animal resources and core technical support.
