Ilyes Abdelhamid

Postdoc

Personal introduction

Ilyes Abdelhamid is a postdoc at Tsinghua Laboratory of Brain and intelligence (THBI: 清华大学脑与智能实验室) under the supervision of Prof. Dr.-Ing. Carlo Vittorio Cannistraci. His work uses new local topology rules for link prediction via Cannistraci-Hebb network automata theory, a research field that led to state-of-the-art link prediction methods, helping explain the laws of self-organization of complex systems.

Born in France, he received his master degree in bioinformatics at the Paris-Diderot University in Paris, France. He has been carrying out his PhD since October 2018 between Brigham and Women’s hospital in Boston, USA, and the Biotechnology Center of Technische Universität Dresden, Germany. From August 2020 to December 2022, he further enriched his experience in lipidomics as a research assistant at Lipotype GmbH, a global leader in the field of lipid research.

Research interests

Ilyes Abdelhamid is a network scientist, fascinated with a wide range of topics, from unveiling the structure of the brain to treating diseases using network medicine, to the emergence of future protein-protein interactions. His work has helped interpret information memory hidden in the topology of various complex systems using the quantitative tools of network science, a research field that he pioneered with Prof. Carlo Vittorio Cannistraci, and lead to the concept of network shape intelligence, helping explain the emergence and self-organization of many natural, technological and social networks.

Research area
Computational biology and network medicine
