You are warmly invited to join the “2026 Tsinghua Music and Brain Summer Workshop” to explore the exciting frontier at the intersection of music and brain science. The workshop is organized by Tsinghua Laboratory of Brain and Intelligence and will take place between July 12–18, 2026 on the campus of Tsinghua University, Beijing. Applicants with the following background are encouraged to apply:

  • PhD students, Master’s students, and senior undergraduate students with a strong interest in music and background in engineering, mathematics, neuroscience, or cognitive science

  • Postdoctoral researchers with background and interest in music and brain research

  • Early-career faculty members from conservatories and universities

Program Overview

This workshop aims to stimulate interest in music neuroscience research, provide systematic theoretical instruction and cutting-edge technical training, and foster interdisciplinary collaboration and talent development. To accommodate participants with diverse backgrounds, the workshop will offer differentiated training tracks:

  • Participants with quantitative and engineering background will receive training in conceptual frameworks and data analysis methods in music neuroscience

  • Participants from artistic background will be trained in scientific research methods, experimental design, and foundational neuroscience

Building on this foundation, this year’s program will feature a special “Music and Voice Workshop,” integrating neuroscience, psychology, and artistic practice to explore the mechanisms through which music influences emotional regulation, cognitive intervention, and physical and mental well-being. Through case studies and hands-on experiences, participants will learn how to design music-based intervention strategies tailored to individual differences and gain an understanding—at the neural level—of how music and sound affect brain function and behavior.

Program Objectives

  • Foster interdisciplinary talent in music and brain science

Create a platform for cross-disciplinary exchange and collaboration among musicians interested in brain science and students with strong backgrounds in mathematics and engineering who are passionate about music.

  • Support early-career researchers

Provide systematic training in neuroscience techniques, experimental paradigms, and quantitative analysis methods for young faculty interested in music neuroscience, supporting their development toward independent research.

  • Develop research teams and methodological frameworks

Introduce cutting-edge experimental methods and research approaches through practical training, promote interdisciplinary collaboration, and lay a solid foundation for future research team building.

  • Explore applications in music-based intervention and therapy

Through the Music and Voice Workshop, promote the translation of music neuroscience into applications in health, education, and well-being, and strengthen the connection between scientific research and societal needs.

Registration

Program Fee (upon acceptance):
