Research Interest & Fields

Dr.Song’s research interests lie in how the brain computes and how to build machines compute like the brain. Specifically, his work focuses on developing novel optical imaging methods aimed at reading and writing primate brain functions with high-throughput (optical brain-machine interfaces). With these methods, he maps and analyzes the cortical neural circuits that mediate complex auditory perception in primates, while also generating functional data of primate brains with high-coverage, and high-sensitivity to align and train machine models that closely resemble real brain functions. Related work has been published in journals such as Nature Communications and Light: Science & Applicationsa, and has also appeared as cover articles in PNAS and Hearing Research, with features in media outlets like Nature and Scientific American.
