Faculty Position in NHP Neuroscience
Time: Nov 25, 2021

Tsinghua Laboratory of Brain and Intelligence(THBI)is currently conducting a global searchfor a senior group leader(Chair Professor)in the area of nonhuman primate neuroscience. The faculty is expected to lead a team to conduct neuroscience and cognitive-behavioral research and develop gene-editing technology usingthe common marmoset as the model system.Applicantsshould have an outstanding, internationally recognized track record of innovative research in the areas of neurobiology, animal behavior, genetics, gene-editing, or large animal brain disease models. Promising and talented young scientists are also encouraged to apply.

THBI is a stand-alone interdisciplinary research institute recently established by Tsinghua University. THBI will house 10 independent groups, each led by a senior group leader. The institute aims to answer foundational questions about the nature of intelligence at all levels (cognition, brain, and artificial systems) through cutting-edge, interdisciplinary research efforts. THBI has an English working environment and brings together international scholars from a broad range of fields in the areas of brain science, cognitive science, and artificial intelligence, to conduct ground-breaking and forward-looking interdisciplinary research.

THBI managesTsinghua University Nonhuman Primate Research Center(THU-NPRC) on campus. The center has dedicated animal housing and research facilities with a focus on the common marmoset (Callithrix jacchus), a highly social New World primate species. State-of-the-art facilities at the center allow researchers to conduct a wide-range of studies using marmosets as the model system, from brain imaging, complex social behavior analyses, to brain disease models. The center is equipped with an operating room, a genetic manipulation room, an embryo culture room, behavioral and electrophysiology laboratories, and a high-field (9.4T) animal MRI scanner. The center will be capable of producing genetically modified marmoset models for both basic and translational research projects. THU-NPRC is open to researchers at both Tsinghua University and other institutionsin Beijing.

Applicants should have a Ph.D. degree in the fields of neuroscience, life sciences, cognitive science, computer science, or other related fields of physical sciences and engineering. Experience as an independent PI in universities or research institutions is highly desirable. Successful candidates are selected based on their scientific qualifications regardless of age, gender, nationality, or ethnicity.

Applicants should send a curriculum vitae, a statement of research interests and future plans, and the names and contact information of three references to <thbi@tsinghua.edu.cn>. Review of applications is ongoing and will continue until the position is filled. For more information on THBI, please visit our website at http://brain.tsinghua.edu.cn/en/
