Introduction

The 1st Computational Neuroscience and Brain-inspired Intelligence Summer School organized by THBI will be held during the first two weeks of July at Tsinghua University, Beijing, China. The purpose of this summer school is to introduce experimental neuroscience researchers to the computational methods and to foster researchers proficient both in the language of neuroscience and artificial intelligence research. Graduate students and upper class undergraduate students with quantitative or experimental backgrounds are especially encouraged to apply. The lectures will introduce the basic concepts and methods in experimental data analysis, theoretical models, and machine learning, supplemented with special lectures by invited speakers on advanced topics from world renowned researchers in related fields. The students will gain hands-on experience in computational methods conducting python-based programming labs and class projects guided by the TAs. To apply, please send email with a CV including your name, educational background, related research experience, and what you expect to learn from the summer school to thbi@tsinghua.edu.cn before May 20, 2018. All participants are responsible for your own housing and meals, but no tuition and registration fee are required.

THBI Introduciton

Tsinghua Laboratory of Brain and Intelligence (THBI) is an interdisciplinary research institute. THBI aims to conduct cutting-edge interdisciplinary research across the fields of systems and computational neuroscience and artificial intelligence. It will house full-time investigators and key research facilities as well as affiliated investigators across the university. The main research directions of THBI are: 1) To develop the next generation of key neuro-technologies in brain-computer interface, human-computer interaction and neural modulation. 2) To use engineering techniques and computational models to explore complex problems in the forefront of brain science, especially in frontier areas such as neural mechanisms of speech and language, music perception and social interaction, the neural circuits of emotion and decision-making, and neuro-aesthetics. 3) To develop brain-inspired devices and systems and conduct theoretical work on general artificial intelligence systems. An important mission of THBI is to educate next generation of researchers with dual training in engineering, mathematics and neuroscience.
